Over the years, many different methods have been used for tattoo removal, each with differing levels of success. Dermabrasion, salabrasion, skin graft, and Argon or CO2 laser, which left behind scars in place of the tattoo. Obviously, this is undesirable.
More recently Fade Creams, Acid Peels, and Tattooing a variety of chemicals and pastes into the area to draw out the ink have appeared. These methods need to be approached with extreme caution as they primarily prey on those who are desperate to remove their tattoo and the thought of scars may be secondary. But remember that damage to the area is very likely to be permanent and often worse than the tattoo itself.

FADE CREAMS: Since Tattoo ink lies many millimetres beneath the skin it is very unreasonable to expect that any cream would be able to fade your tattoo successfully. We have many clients who have tried these for months and years with no effect at all and certainly not cheaper than laser treatment in the long run. This is not unlike the "Snake Oils" sold in by-gone eras and Web Sites promoting their success are normally sponsored by those selling these creams.

ACID PEELS: This is a very dubious method for Tattoo Removal as it employs very powerful acids that are normally used industrially. They are normally supplied for home application which suggests that those supplying them are not willing to see you face to face or apply them for you. Someone with dermalogical expertise would not be endorsing such methods. Unfortunately we have also had clients who have tried these with HORRIFIC SCARRING and often making their tattoo more difficult to remove even with laser, and the scars remain.
TATTOOING PASTES: Again these are very dubious. For many many decades different chemicals and pastes have been promoted to fade or remove tattoos when tattooed in over the top of an existing tattoo. It may also involve picking the scab before healing, this is not wise. Not only will it stop your body from being able to form new skin under the scab, but also opens you to infections, and IRREVERSIBLE SCARRING. Since these pastes are normally SECRET FORMULAS there is no way of knowing what you are injecting into your skin and blood stream. Again it preys on the desperation of some to get their tattoo removed and most often results in TERRIBLE SCARRING that cannot be repaired.
The GOOD NEWS: Laser specialists now use the highly successful Q-Switched lasers to remove tattoos with extremely low risk of scarring. The Nd:YAG laser is the newest member of the Q-Switched class of lasers. This laser will emit certain wavelengths of light. When the wavelengths emitted come in contact with the skin, they pass through the skin but are absorbed by tattoo pigment. The Nd:YAG laser is designed to emit the wavelengths of light that most closely match the colors of ink most common to tattoos.
When the light from the laser hits the skin, while passing through the skin, it will be absorbed by the ink only and break the ink up. The ink is then removed by the body through its natural filtering system. You will be able to see your tattoo fading away.
